Laura Ukkonen (b.1977) is a visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland. The core of her work is drawing which has expanded into woodcuts, videoworks and writing. Her works are portraits, interiors and landscapes that are based in observing the everyday living environment. Her works depict loneliness, and differences between public and private spaces by comparing the contemporary society to the past, finding inspiration in feminist view points.
She holds an MA degree in Fine Arts (2012) and in Art Education (2019), both from Aalto University, School of Art and Design. In 2010 she studied at École des Beaux Arts in Paris. She also holds a BA degree in Art History (2009, Turku University) and Bachelor's degree in Clothing and Textiles (2005, Helsinki Polytechnic).
Laura Ukkonen has held several solo exhibitions in Finland and participated in group exhibitions in Finland and internationally. Her next solo exhibition will open at Gallery Huuto in January 2022. Among other artistic work Laura Ukkonen illustrates the Private Matter -pictorial story, published in the Voima magazine and her article "Toisen piirtämän viivan kopioiminen" has been published in Taidejemmoja (2019 ) and "Haparoivia vetoja" in Saari näkyvissä! – Saaren kartanon taiteilija- ja tutkijaresidenssi 10 vuotta (2018).
